email marketing |
email campaigns launched
In the summer of 2007, my responsibilities
shifted from eCommerce to web marketing. As a team of five
with two copy editors, two image and html experts, and an
email strategist, we produced one to two emails a month
along with supporting articles - see
my web pages - about life solutions and product education.
My duties included the following:
- Designed the structure of the email using email best
practices and standards to prevent spam and delivery problems.
- Created the header and half the imagery in the email
- Planned the look and feel of the email based on the
marketing colors and artwork that the advertising department
provided. I know the importance of maintaining brand recognition
and consistency in visual elements.
- Cleaned up the email coding to optimize the delivery
of the email. When several people touch the content of
the email during development, coding becomes messy and
redundant. I made sure that code was correct before releasing
the email. This required HTML and CSS knowledge to clean
up the final document before it gets sent off to our Customers.
- I repeatedly tested each email in several browsers -
Internet Explorer, Firefox,
Safari, and Opera - on both a Mac and
PC platform for consistency of look. I tested with and
without images displayed to check alt and title tags for
accuracy.
- Further testing occurred by delivering to "seed"
email addresses for email client compatibility. This was
performed by the email strategist, however I received
many of them in my in-boxes to review.
While I thoroughly enjoyed working on the Alaska WebStore,
my ability to be creative soared while working on email
and web pages for Fred Meyer. I loved my job!

This is an example of a header design that I arranged. If
you have Java Script enabled on your browser you will see
a rolling slide show of many email headers.
